Born: Youngstown, Ohio
Mother: Sophronia King: church choir member and member of the “Jesus Celebration Choir” recording group.
Father: John King: lead singer for the recording group and radio performers “The Sons of Harmony”. They performed
extensively on the east coast and every Sunday on the radio.
Ron King started singing at six years of age and began leading
songs by the age of ten. After many years of singing in the church choir and as a requested soloist, his mother was offered the opportunity to have him formally trained by the world renowned opera tenor and baritone Mizell Ewing. She accepted and following his first year was offered a scholarship for the next 4 years. Once his formalized training was completed, Ron was accepted as a member of the tenor section of the Youngstown Philharmonic Chorus which was then under the direction of Franz Bibo.
After spending 3 years in the chorus, he decided to spend more time singing gospel music using the skills he had learned in the operatic field. In so doing, he helped to found the regional gospel group “The Gospelaires” which performed throughout northern and central Ohio. He also served as a lead vocalist and assisting director of the “Ivory Malden Choral Group”.
In 1984, Ron, feeling a call to write music, decided to try his hand at the creative process of writing what he calls “music with a message”. After many years of writing and copyrighting his music, now feeling a call to present God’s work to the public, has begun
to record that which God has laid on his heart.
The first of these was a song titled “He Knows”, written to bring a greater awareness to the listener that God is in full knowledge of one’s situations and circumstances as he works his plan in your life. Next was “Heaven Bound”, a modern day negro spiritual written to bring back the old time feeling when the saints knew that all they had was the knowledge that heaven was their home. Then there was “Shine On Me”. This song was to be an inspiration for those who feel they are lost, without direction or purpose. Just look to the light of the world, God, he is always there, there for you!
Recently I was directed to release an anthem entitled “Change”. This song was originally penned in 1996, twelve years before the history making election of Barack Obama. This project was presented in the fall of 2008 and production began on its recording and release. Following the completion of the recording, Ron immediately began the process of working with others to produce his desire for a supporting and inspiring video to accompany this musical work.
The video was completed in January, 2009, one week before the inauguration.
