Details:
The first of 12 proposed albums for 2011 (one every month), Glen Burg chooses to let his instruments take center stage for this Contemporary Instrumental/Electroacoustic approach. All tracks connect together as a musical cycle, weaving a wordless story much like a tone poem. The pace is easy (and at times absent of tempo), yet the inclusion of 12-string guitar duos and Fretless bass work amongst the keyboard washes means there are still details to keep the ear attentive while the listener is invited to relax.

Glen''s love for ''70s progressive rock and fusion means one can hear compositional traces of Weather Report, Tangerine Dream, Genesis, Harmonium, Oregon, Mike Oldfield, and Focus, amongst others. His great appreciation for the early music of the Narada label brings flavors of David Lanz, Michael Jones, and Friedemann Witecka to the mix.

"Home: A Reflection" was conceived and recorded sporadically in the last months of 2010, with solely one track having been conceived before this time. "Lovequest" was originally proposed to Kimspirational for her guided meditation recording, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" (also available through CDBaby), but did not make that CD. Glen revisited this composition and added solo instruments to the keyboard pads, percussion and nature sound effects already recorded.

Although they are united in theme and combine to tell a story, the selections on "Home: A Reflection" offer diverse stylistic influences. Some have acoustic piano to the forefront in a relaxing, George Winston vein. Others rely on Tangerine Dream-like electroacoustic washes to give impressionistic feels, without necessarily adhering to melody or meter. Others interlock finger-style acoustic guitars, woodwinds and classic synthesizer sounds to recreate the atmosphere of Harmonium, Genesis and Oregon. Throughout, it is a feel of gentle motion and contemplation which propels the album and the listener.

"Home: A Reflection" is an instrumental meditation on the meaning of returning to one''s birthplace after being away for an extended time, the consequences such a decision might entail, and ultimately self-discovery and the return to the root of oneself.
