Details:
On his second release AllOne & The Room, Long Island''s own Bruce "AllOne" Pandolfo is teamed up with a live band. Funky and moody bass lines provided by Dan Sollazzo, Michael Setteducati''s intricate and interesting percussion arrangements, AllOne''s harmonica beatboxing and local Indie favorite Michael Korb''s appropriate and energetic guitar segments provide a soundscape for AllOne''s esoteric, emotional, lyrical subject matter often delivered at high speeds. On this new release, AllOne has been pushed stylistically and vocally to new areas. He hasn''t fully forgotten his cafe open mic performance poetry roots in the acapella sections of songs like Revealed [Personal], Revealed [Universal], Glory Lockets and even the verses of Used Up. But with these high energy and at times appropriate dark instruments to guide him, the vocals have taken a clearer direction, with a confident rap cadence that is often double timed, (see Rapid Enrapture for the most intimidatingly fast vocals on the album) tongue twisting display of pictures and theories made with intricately webbed words, where wordplay and poetic devices are used abundantly and seemingly with abandon, but all to depict a focused idea. On songs like Glory Lockets, Used Up, and the unexpectedly pop but still unique closer If Not For we find AllOne adding singing to his bag of delivery capabilities with bassist and backup vocalist Dan Sollazzo added to the mix, as well as adding a tribal vibe with haunting vocals on Finite Circle Paradox. The topics are often philosophical, they challenge the listener often asking direct and thought provoking questions. The messages communicated range from substance abuse, generosity, the meaning of life and if that even matters, the strange paradoxes behind a cyclic life that always ends, or a slew of unique lives that are so repetitious, the dangers of the work driven world and wage slavery, to promoting optimism and motivation in order to "prove our pulse". The writing utilizes metaphor and storytelling often and tightly knit word webs that fly past your ears and beckon a second listen. If Coal Aberration''s "Intertwining Storytime" were expanded on in terms of playfulness, thoughtfulness, odd song structure, varied delivery speeds and styles, you may have an idea of how this album treats the listener. The album is short, clocking in around 26 minutes across 9 tracks, it may leave you looking for more, but so much is meticulously packed into that time that it beckons re-listening and deciphering that is well worth it, but despite the quirky avant-garde approach, the songs are catchy and you''ll be glad to press play again. This album is fun and challenging, you''ll find new insightful lines and ideals at every turn of the cd, its the type of album that grabs your brain and asks it to dance, taking us through the musical equivalent of being locked in a room for a day and assessing all our woes, reflections and heady ruminations.
