"Intersection" is the result one of the most recent musical projects assembled by the Los Angeles based saxophonist and composer Josiah Boornazian. The group has gradually evolved into an innovative, genre-defying, and exciting sextet featuring Boornazian on alto sax, Matt DiGiovanna on tenor sax, Juan Trujillo on guitar, Gabe Rudner on piano, Derek Beach on bass, and Brijesh Pandya on drums. The ensemble’s members (all of whom are either current students or alumni of California State University, Northridge) have a profusion of virtuosity, creativity, experience, and energy, and the players beautifully frame Josiah’s compositions- ranging from the very simple to the very complex- with extended improvised solos. In addition to playing Josiah''s compositions, Josiah''s sextet also plays through-composed works, entirely improvised "free" music, and interpretations of jazz "standards" (although there are no standards featured on this album) The sextet’s influences are wide- encompassing jazz, rock, classical, hip-hop, electronic music, and much more. These diverse musical inspirations are apparent in the group’s distinctive sound and Josiah''s unique compositions. The Josiah Boornazian Group, in addition to performances at CSU, Northridge and in the greater Los Angeles area, has toured California extensively and recorded for CSU, Northridge’s Music Department.
A note on the title:
The title, "Intersection," is a reference to the fact that the musicians on this album are part of a quasi-collective of creative performers and composers. This project was originally released as a physical two-disc set which also featured original compositions from a group called "Midwestern Barncoat," Midwestern Barncoat shares three members with the Josiah Boornazian group. The albums represent the musical intersection of a group of friends and colleagues who consider themselves to be part of a larger, loosely associated collective of artists.

Welcome to Intersection. You are about to experience the 1st full-length album with all original compositions by Josiah Boornazian, alto sax player and leader of the Josiah Boornazian Group.
Fresh off their 2010 tour (including a performance at the 53rd Annual Monterey Jazz Festival) in which they refined these pieces, Boornazian and his band mates went into the studio for this production. During this run, they achieved 1st place at The Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival as well as The Reno Collegiate Jazz Festival where Boornazian was awarded Most Outstanding Collegiate Saxophonist of 2010.
Although Josiah Boornazian Group consists of one graduate and five current seniors studying instrumental jazz performance at California State University, Northridge; Boornazian has been taught by and/or played with David Binney, Chris Potter, Ben Wendel, Dave Douglas, David Sanchez, Will Vinson, Gary Pratt, Rob Lockart, and David “Fathead” Newman amongst others.

This preliminary album from a band that has already made a name for itself and will continue to do so is the first step you can take into the intersection.
