The songs on Paper Heart were all written within two years of each other and are influenced by such artists as James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Norah Jones and Colbie Caillat. The project started out as a birthday gift: a chance to record some of the original songs I’d written over the past months. Some of the songs have sprung from my own life, others from lyrics or melodies written while I was half asleep. Paper Heart is a snapshot of myself, in a sense. It captures the different sides of me - from the side of myself that writes honestly and incessantly in my journal to the side that simply sits by my window, looking at the moon.
