If you are a fan of Chuck Brown, Rare Essence Trouble Funk, EU and The Roots you will certainly love Ovation Band. Ovation Band was formed by Bassist and Hype man Elwood "Funky Wood" Jones and Drummer Maurice Teel. Wood and Teels growing up on R&B and Jazz started the first Go-Go band out of Virginia in 1980. The group has played on the same stages with the best of the best at places such as Rec Center, High Schools, The DC Colosseum, The Club Lebaron, The Moonlite Inn, Wilmers Park, The Howard Theatre and Kaywood Theatre to name a few. Ovation Band was best known for it''s musical talent and the household names of the band members such as Mr. Wiggles, Ron Boone of The Valley, Big Bill, Funky Jeff, Chap, Plukie, Tricky Rick, Loose Booty and The OV Dancers. The band also had a huge following thru out the entire DC, Maryland and Virginia area and went thru a major reconstruction when Elwood Jones was kicked out the band by new management. He later went to Shady Groove and recorded the first Go-Go album out of Virginia with a the new band. Ovation band has reformed with the original members and has not lost it''s sound but is sounding better then ever.
