One of Kentucky''s premier live bands, the Swells play an eclectic mix of tunes from the vault of 20th century American music. Their interests draw heavily from folk, jazz, and blues traditions, but they are not bound by any specific label. Louis Armstrong once remarked that there are only two kinds of music, good music and bad music. The Swells are equally at home playing a New Orleans standard with an eight piece brass band on the street as they are playing an old cowboy song, or something by the likes of Woody Guthrie around a campfire. With instruments ranging from clarinet, trumpet, accordion, to musical saw, guitar, and ukulele, they explore a wide range of styles on this fine record.
