Biography

Living Stone is a Christian rock group currently based in Southern California. Their newest album “Another Shade of Blue” is the kind of album you would leave on regular rotation in your disc changer, as it features strong melodic hooks combined with thoughtful, matured songwriting. Featuring the smooth, expressive vocals of vocalist/bassist Evangeline Jackson, the melodic, tube-amp driven guitar work of guitarist Randy Jackson, this album is the group’s best CD to date.

While the album is decidedly Christian in its worldview, the songs are as much about the struggle for lasting, expressive faith (“Space in My Heart,” “Morning Coming Soon,” “Black Limo”) as it is about the faith experience itself (“Sweet Love,” “Cruel Vegas Dawn,” ”Shouting”). The album also relates to loneliness (“You Had a Way”) and desiring spiritual experience (“Dove”). Michael Grimm provides guest vocals on one of the tracks (“Had a Dream”) that celebrates a lasting marital love, and Jesse Abraham provides guest vocals for the classic rocker “Show Me Love”.

This album follows the group’s 2004 album “Spirit Whisper” which was nominated for a Native American Music Award. The album was self produced by the group and mixed by legendary Las Vegas recording engineer T-Bone Demman. Drummer Percy Gutierrez of Minneapolis plays on most of the tracks, while current drummer, Brad Bianco plays on two tracks. Keyboardist John Huston plays Hammond B3 on several tracks as well.

While it is hard to pinpoint any specific influences, the music is in the stylistic realm of Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Bonnie Raitt and Don Henley. That said, Living Stone music is best experienced for its own original take on the genres that influence it.
