Details:
"Tsikago," the latest album by Lamajamal, is a very danceable and heavily percussive mix of originals and what some might call "party music" from the Balkans, Greece, the Middle-East, and Morocco.

The album blends a variety of exotic instruments like oud, santouri, cumbus, tambur, and darbuka, with the more modern sounds of electric guitar, horns, vocals, and upright bass. Lamajamal''s unique production style, with heavy beats, and subtle elements of dub and trance music gives the entire album a unified feel, and ties together its great variety of music, making this Lamajamal''s best release yet!

There are many catchy original songs, some, like "Charga Charga" and "Reehat el Reehan" hint at Bollywood influences, while "Schtunk" has a distinctly "Yiddish" sound. "Jasmin tea" is reminiscent of Turkish Sufi music, and "Ukrainian Tango" starts out as a ballad and changes to a salsa dance party!

The traditional music on the album fits in seamlessly with the originals. "Gypsy 78," "Gaida," "Naradno Horo," and "Nazdrave Medley" are Balkan Gypsy songs that feature clarinet, sax, and trumpet. "Sidi Habibi" is a Moroccan song reworked by Lamajamal featuring Arabic vocals and oud in the intro, later bursting into a full wall of sound. "Raqs Lamajamal" is an energetic dabke folk dance from the Levantine region, it features accordion, oud and a darbuka drum solo in the middle. Finally, "Alexandris/Xenitemeno mou Pouli" is a medley of two Greek folk songs featuring santouri and guest female vocals.

The songs on this album are inspired by the music of travelers and immigrants who have brought their unique sounds from far away lands and arrived in Chicago. “Tsikago” is Lamajamal’s tribute to the variety of music that has made its way to their beloved hometown.
