Details:
From California to New York, Germany, England, and Canada, 26-year-old pianist Anyssa Neumann has been praised for the “clarity, charm, and equipoise” of her elegantly-crafted performances. Noted for her “deep connection to the Bach repertoire,” she recently presented all-Bach recitals at the Sacramento Bach Festival and the Banff Centre for the Arts and continues to concertize in North America and Europe.

Anyssa also performs as recital partner with Grammy Award-winning cellist Sara Sant’Ambrogio of the Eroica Trio. Their 2004 studio recording, Dreaming, has been broadcast on radio stations throughout the United States, and the duo has also been heard on NPR’s Performance Today and Sirius Satellite Radio. Anyssa has appeared as recurring guest pianist with the Sheba Ensemble, an all-female chamber group specializing in traditional Jewish music infused with jazz, classical music, and bossa nova. Other collaborations have led to performances with soprano Rena Harms, composer Joseph Trapanese, and the New York Theatre Ballet.

Having studied at the Manhattan School of Music, Oxford University, and Université de Montréal, Anyssa holds degrees in both performance and musicology, has taught music history at Oxford University, and currently writes liner notes for Naxos International Records.

As a performer, Anyssa believes that the purpose of art is to fill this pain-wracked world with beauty. As a scholar, she believes that the music of past centuries has as much relevance to the lives of listeners today as it did when first composed, linking humans not only to each other but also to earlier peoples, histories, and cultures. She hopes her multi-faceted career in music will follow Wallace Stevens’ exhortation to “Fill your black hull / With white moonlight”—to create with sound, as it were, a little moonlight.
