With her natural and unique voice, combined with a smart and pervasive live presence, and solid songwriting skills, Kim Jarrett is well on her way to becoming a truly respected talent unto her own.
With influences ranging from 1980''s Top 40, to 70''s rock and beyond, Kim''s music, as demonstrated on her self-titled debut CD (quietly released in September 2002), is a reflection of many - a little bit folk, a little bit country, a little bit pop-rock. Often described as folk-blues, roots, or "real music" the songs are mature and melodic, with straightforward, personal lyrics.
Born in the suburbs of Toronto, Kim has always considered music an important part of life. Beginning with a love of singing, some classical piano and voice training, and then through playing guitar- a penchant for songwriting quickly followed. Kim notes:
"A good song grabs you and you find yourself humming it later in the day. I set out to write songs that are meaningful to me, that express my emotions and ideas-that won''t leave my head."
Clearly Kim''s songs struck a chord, as a nationwide radio release of her album and subsequent single Do I Have the Patience garnered regular Adult Contemporary, CBC and College radio play on 37 stations from St. John''s to Vancouver. On a more grassroots level, people from all ages and walks of life who have her album often approach Kim to tell her that they relate to her lyrics.
Kim continues to perform regularly throughout Toronto with bassist/producer Mike Costantino, while preparing to record the material for her next release. These songs will again feature some of Toronto''s finest musicians, as well as showcase Kim''s continually developing musical style.
