Fifteen years of working the industry from music school and touring to the recording and producing of multiple projects brought the skills and ideas of Tom Sullivan and Andy Patch together to collaborate on a sound that would become a 100% west coast original. While reording their debut album "Ride" Mooshu Pie Train masterminds Sullivan(bass, vocals) Patch(guitar, vocals)developed a family of eclectic and talented artists with one common goal in mind: To create their own genre of music both in the studio and live. Like the giant melting pot that is Mooshu Pie Train, every player gets a chance to toss in their own special flavor, and the result is not only a brilliant first CD but a stellar live show featuring some of the industry''s hottest up in coming musicians, like world beat drummer Bryon Holley(Bad Haggis,Chris Pierce Liberation, Armand Sabel-Lecco). Adding an R&B/Big Band feel comprable to Tower of Power are horn players Karl Hunter and Ron Blake(Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) along with Ozomatli trombone player Sheffer Bruton. Coincidentally, Gary Herbig of Tower of Power shines on a few tracks from "Ride" like "Broken Door" or "Roots". Multitasker and harmonic backbone provider Jason Freese(Goo Goo Dolls, Joe Walsh) adds vintage keyboard tones and even manages to lay saxaphone stylings of his own. Then the most angelic, Jana Anderson, an amazing female vocalist who is no stanger to left of center projects like Mooshu. Having worked with Prince and Don Henley, she definitely had the chops to create her own special niche that rounds out the eclectic sounds of Mooshu Pie Train. All of these style inputs gave Andy and Tom the authenticity that they were working to achieve in thier songs. Last but not least the mix and production genius of Zip 100 helped to fuel the completion of the Mooshu Pie Train machine.
While every track on "Ride" is a gem, standout songs like the title track "Ride", "Soul is the Light" and "Honey" epitomize the range and abilities of this crazy melange of talent. Sullivan and Patch create a funky blend mixed with flowing harmonies that capture the essence of their Southern California Lifestyles.
