Michael Campagna, born in Hollywood, Florida grew up in the diverse musical atmosphere of South Florida. His musical studies began at an early age on the piano and by age twelve took up playing the saxophone and clarinet. He went on to study at the University of Miami and received a Bachelor''s in Jazz Saxophone Performance and a Master''s in Studio Music and Jazz Composition while performing with such jazz greats as Jimmy Heath, Donald Byrd, John Faddis, Dave Liebman, Maria Schneider, Claire Fisher, and Randy Brecker.
Upon moving to New York City in 2001, Michael began playing in the ten piece orchestra of the legendary Bobby Short at the Café Carlyle, also writing arrangements for the group. He has been called on to perform and record with such artists as Ben Riley, Charlie Haden, The Toshiko Akiyoshi Big Band and The Duke Ellington Orchestra, playing at some of New York’s most historic jazz venues like the Village Vanguard, and Birdland.
Michael’s versatility as a musician and composer has led him to engagements with the Florida Philharmonic, New World Symphony and the Naples (FL) Philharmonic. He is a commissioned arranger for the Greensboro, North Carolina Pops Symphony and has done arranging work for Warner Bros. recording artists Lea DeLaria and BWB.
Michael''s first album as a leader, Passionate Nature, is a collection of original compositions and arrangements. He has assembled a stellar group of internationally renowned musicians including Michael Rodriguez, Hans Glawischnig, Ari Hoenig, Robert Rodriguez and Samuel Torres. Michael can be heard playing throughout New York City as well as regular engagements in Europe and abroad.
