The album is about life in general and is the fulfillment of a jazz legacy. Also,the fact that it is a live performance in perhaps the premier jazz club on the east coast makes it a throwback to a more elegant and classy era that existed during the peak years of jazz in the late 40''s and early 50''s. The quintet, composed of vibes, conga drums, regular percussion, piano, and bass help recreate the atmosphere reminiscent of The Village Vanguard in New York and The Blackhawk in San Francisco.
At the age of 66, and having a lifelong dream materialized is a feeling one cannot easily describe. My father played the vibes in 1938. I was schooled as a horn player but here I am playing latin jazz in 2005 in my own club. It is truly proof that you should chase yur dreams.
The latin form of jazz is unique because it is sensual, rhytmic and, most of all, dynamically exciting. When this is combined with a live performance in front of friends and satisfied customers in an acoustically perfect room, you have the elements of a cultural experience and not just a normal night of listening to music.
I am very confident that anyone who chooses to listen to this CD will be pleasantly motivated to start moving around the room but stil intently listening at all times.
