Details:
Ralston “Noah” Brown was born on February 1st, 1964 in the Parish of Portland, Jamaica W. I. Noah’s musical career has spanned nearly 30years. This vibrant reggae artist commenced his musical career in December of 1977. He is the son of famed reggae saxophonist Lenox Brown, and Winnifred Palmer, a dressmaker. “Being a dancehall hall dj (rapper), was very exciting” Noah exclaimed. “I started rapping at the age of 11-12, before yellow man got famous,” he stated. During my rookie years, the top-heavy weight rappers were Ranking Trevor, U. Brown, Daddy Roy, Ranking Joe, Lone ranger, Johnny Ringo, and Welton Irie, etc. Noah worked diligently at his craft within his parish of Portland, and Kingston. In 1979, Noah changed his stage name to Rallo Culture, as conscious lyrics were his forte. Furthermore, Bobby Culture was somewhat influential in his (Noah’s) career. When asked about Artists that influenced him, Noah paid homage to Bob Marley, however, surprisingly, Dennis Brown, (crowned prince of reggae, and family friend) received more credit. Bob’s music seldom played in the dancehall, and during the late 70’s (rub a dub era) Dennis ran things. Lone Ranger, and Ranking Trevor received the nod for his favorite rappers. “ Barnabas Collins, love bump, Queen Majesty, and answer mi question” were the songs Noah stated that as a kid he would listen over and over. In 1982, Noah migrated to the United States, by way of Bronx NY. Noah said he remembered that while reggae was playing among the local Jamaican and other West Indian communities “ yuh dare not turn it up too loud” as you would be told to turn off that nonsense.” “Man how far we have grown.” This growth is due however, to that fire, the fire that never went out we the old school vets kept the fire burning, with all our block and basement sessions. Noah continued to entertain, working with artists such as Brigadier Jerry, Lone Ranger, Nicodemus, Mickey Jarrett, Gully General, Shine head, Santa Ranking, General Plough, Gego Crucial, Sassafras, General Threes, Leroy Gibbon, Nancy, Lady G, Charmaine, and the list goes on. In 1984 Noah attended Long Island University, subsequently, receiving a bachelor’s degree in finance, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1988. “Boy the senseless killing was like an epidemic in NYC during the mid and late 80’s” Noah states. It was for this reason he stepped away from the dancehall scene, and joined up with Kevin Bartee and Kbar mgmt. This relationship fostered several demos, of which, one song was accepted by Cleotis Adams AR at Mercury Records. Creative differences altered this relationship thus the project was severed. Noah then went on to produce several other projects. “No major sellers, but culture was my thing and I refused to sell out”. Noah said. Surprisingly, in 1993 his debut album, “Rise Again,” gave way to appearance on Fox TV’s uptown comedy club, and an opening act for reggae great Burning Spear. Another single followed titled Black Band Wagon and did fairly well in the underground. “ One time Daved Levy of WLIB/WBLS, played this song for around 10 minutes,” Noah recounted. Another album titled “God A Come” followed, this album failed as the tracks were not hitting, and to make things worse the recording of the vocals were not up to par. Noah took a long break from the music scene, and migrated to Orlando, Florida with his wife and three children in 1998. Lets back up a bit, how did you maintain your bills? “ I worked as a case worker for 10 years with the City of New York, this was in conjunction with the music career.” Noah replied. In 2003, Noah was invited to do a show in Los Angeles with his brother Lennox “Buppy” Brown (Wesley Snipes photo double), and some other local acts. While the show was secular, noah said he incorporated reggae gospel, and had the crowd wanting for more, Noah said he did not rehearse with the band, but because of his veteran dancehall experience, he just instructed the band to play any rhythm, and the show went on without any hitch. Because of this experience, Noah said he knew God was not finish with utilizing his (Noah’s) gift. Noah went on to complete a masters degree in counseling and psychology at Troy State University, Florida division IN 2004. Talk about a plan b. People here we go again, Noah’s latest release inspired by God, titled The Sermon, Hope you enjoy, as this is only the Beginning. Love, respect, and God, in the name of Christ bless.
