Multi-talented, goal-oriented and Spirit-lead, Nicee D is on a mission to forcefully advance the message of the Kingdom of Heaven in the entertainment industry, fueled by a passionate love for Jesus Christ, utilizing all the skills she''s been blessed to posses.
Singer-songwriter Nicee D grew up in the Bronx, New York. As a teenager, she learned piano by ear, experimentation, and by begging the musicians at church to show her something – anything! every Sunday afternoon. A small, liberal arts college in New England was the opportunity that unlocked Nicee D''s musical potential; though she had only taken her first formal music lesson in her freshman year at the age of 18, by the time she was 21, she had learned how to play saxophone, flute, drums, African and Latin percussion, plus had gotten her feet wet with music sequencing, producing and recording engineering. During her senior year, Nicee D discovered a new love for event promotion when she organized a Christian Jazz concert for the school in the fall and a multi-day series of African dance workshops and performances for Black History month…all while completing two senior thesis projects!
In between work-study, jam sessions, all-nighters in the recording studio, Nicee D graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in both English (creative writing) and Music (composition). She returned to New York City and earned a masters degree in education the following year. Nicee D taught English and conducted a Gospel choir in Bronx and Manhattan high schools for 4 years. Although she enjoyed working with teens, Nicee D that the New York City public school system was more than she could bear. Nicee D continued in the educational field in an administrative capacity for 3 more years, returned to school to perfect her engineering and production skills, then started a new career in sales.
However, Nicee D has always known her true calling and has been simultaneously adding notches to her musical belt while working her "day jobs." Nicee D is best known as the voice of "The King''s College Promotional Hip Hop CD (2001)." She produced the CD project for the school and also conceived, coordinated and promoted "The King''s College – The Live Experience!" tour that followed in 2002, successfully packing seven venues through out New York City.
2001 and 2002 were busy years for Nicee D; in addition to working on The King''s College projects, the self-proclaimed queen of multi-tasking wrote and produced her first CD "All You Need" and released it under the imprint of her new company, Bended Knee Productions. Since that time, Nicee D has become a well respected performer and minister throughout the tri-state area and other east cost states, having shared the platform with premier Christian artists such as Corey Red and Precise, Todd Bangz, Frankie Cutlass and rock band The Elms, to name a few.
In 2005, Nicee D was honored with an award by the Hopeton Lewis Caribbean Gospel Music Awards committee. Anxious fans will breath a sigh of relief when her long over due sophomore effort is released in late 2006, early 2007. In the meantime, Nicee D is beginning to make her mark as a producer for New York area artists; she is currently working on a project for 2006 Pathmark Gospel Choir competition winners The Mt. Vernon Gospel Knights.
Nicee D is no stranger to ministry or leadership. Although she grew up in church and comes from eight generations of ministers of the Gospel in her family, which originates in the British Virgin Islands, Nicee D made a firm commitment to Christ during college. Since graduating, she has been the praise and worship director for her lower Manhattan church and was installed as a deacon there in 2003.
