1.) nickname, why did you move out to L.A.?
Me and my friend did one of those spin the globe and put your finger on it things and we hit San Bernardino. After about four months of that shithole I packed my bags. My friend asked where i was going and i replied "westward ho!"...and she was. That was a little over 3 years ago.
2.) How does living with members of a rockband affect your work?
Rock n'' roll has always been a huge influence for me, and my roommates and i share a lot of the same tastes in music. It''s really positive living with people who are pursuing the same types of things that you are.
3.) Tell me about some of the samples you used and why you chose them?
I only used 2 music samples on my album. The first is Cory Harts "Sunglasses" and the second is Henry Mancinis "Theme from Love Story". I think I just really liked the way the loops sounded. However, I sampled a lot of voices because I am the only one who appears on the album and I wanted to make it sound as diverse as possible. On track ..10 titled "bobdylan" i took one of Bob Dylans songs and cut it up about a thousand times so it sounds like he is rapping over the beat. Most all the other stuff is just cool shit I heard people say in movies that referred to what i was writing about on a certain song.
4.) Did you write most of your material in Chicago or in L.A.?
I wrote it all in L.A.
5.) How did you get your nickname?
I had a few different names in the past but nothing I ever felt real adamant about. One day I was shopping at the goodwill with my sister and she was saying that I needed a really cool nickname. Then she held up this shirt and was like "How about this?" The front of the shirt said "who''s your daddy?" and the back of the shirt said "nickname". I thought it was cool cause it was paradoxical and had a comical connotation to it. Also, my first name is Nick so it fits. She still calls me Who''s your daddy. I wish I would''ve bought the shirt;(
6.) Since you came from Chicago, do you lean more towards East Coast or West Coast hip hop?
I gangsta lean towards all coasts and all music. There is just so much good stuff out there from all different areas. There are no greater than or less than signs for me when it comes to coasts.
7.) How do you feel about hip hop/metal fusion bands? HA!
I think its great and it broadens horizons. It can open up a whole new world of inspiration for each genre. Some of my favorite bands are resposible for bridging gaps and crossing over.
8.) Who do you listen to a lot, music wise?
L.A.''s got great radio stations.
9.) Do you freestyle?
Yes.
10.) Since you did everything on your album do you consider yourself more of a rapper or a producer?
Primarily I was a rapper, but I got more into making beats for a while. I produced another album for another rapper, but when I moved out to L.A. I wasnt working with anyone so I decided to rap over my own beats. If I had to say what I consider myself more I would say a rapper because what I say and communicate through my songs with lyrics is much more important than what the instruments are telling.
