Optikz is no stranger to patience and perseverance, learning early on in his career to begin with the end in mind. With his grass roots in Australia he was raised earlier on down under and later brought up in Canada, which has given Optikz a versatile musical sound. He fell in love with hip hop through the art of break dancing and rhyming.
After honing his craft for a couple of years through battling, freestyling on local radio shows, in street cyphers and at open mic nights. He decided it was time to get his sound out on record so starting out in 2002 he became one of the fore front emcees in the band RCR. He gained strength in his song writing, stage performance, booking shows, graphic design, public relations, marketing, advertising and product distribution. He managed to get the group a show opening up for The Rascalz, IRS and Concise in 2003 followed by shows at numerous venues including Phoenix Night Club in London, Stages Night Club in Kitchener, The Palace Night Club, Trasheteria, Vinyl, The Bullring and Van Gohs in Guelph.
Optikz than began his solo career recording his debut solo album. In 2004 he registered an independent label titled Systematix Records and upon completion of the project in 2005 successfully manufactured and distributed 100 copies across Ontario and registered his songs with SOCAN Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada. Shortly after this he began doing gigs, beginning with the music festival, Under The Stars, followed by a show at Second Floor Night Club in Mississauga and than show’s at The Ward Skate Park, The Grange Entertainment Centre, Shadow Night Club and Club Vinyl in Guelph.
In the midst of all this he has applied to Videofact two times, first through Fire Watch Films and second through director Billy Dunlop. He recently auditioned at the Flow 93.5 FM Soul Search and is now a student in the Independent Music Production Program at Seneca @ York University. Optikz is a truly skilled artist in both his music and business.
