C. Shells
Family Funtime Music

C. Shells is a children''s musical duo comprised of Cindy Kays and Shelly Craig Potter. Together Cindy and Shelly have over 40 years of musical experience. Shelly, a Hampton Roads native, has been a featured solo performer at many local clubs. An accomplished guitarist and teacher, Shelly performs a diverse variety of music from blues to bluegrass. A native of Lancaster, PA, Cindy has performed folk and Celtic music at colleges and pubs in Virginia, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
Shelly and Cindy have performed together for the past 13 years as a children''s duo. A talented songwriter, Shelly writes much of the group''s material. The mother of two daughters, Shelly swears that everything she writes about is true! Using stringed instruments such as the guitar, banjo, Dobro and mandolin, as well as various percussion instruments, puppets and entertainment props, Cindy and Shelly encourage the children (and adults, too!) to participate with hand motions and singing. Their song repertoire ranges from traditional and contemporary folk songs to Disney tunes and original songs.
The duo are regulars at many festivals and libraries throughout the mid-Atlantic states. They have been on the roster of Young Audiences of Virginia for the past 10 years. They are also visiting guest artists with Young Audiences of Maryland as well as Young Audiences of Eastern Pennsylvania. Performing as "Cindy and Shelly," they present their educational programs in pre-schools and elementary schools throughout Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Cindy and Shelly released their debut album, self-titled, "C. Shells," on the Southern Branch Music label, in 1995. Fun for all ages, the album features 10 original songs and two cover songs. "C. Shells" was awarded a Parents'' Choice Silver Honor in July 1998 for excellence in children''s music. In March of 1998, they released their second album on Southern Branch Music titled, "Animal Tails," a fun-filled journey of songs about some of the animals in the world we live. In October 1998, "Animal Tails" was awarded a Parents'' Choice Approval Seal. Their third album, “Just for Fun!” released in October 2001, features all new songs as well as some old favorites. In March 2002 “Just for Fun!” earned a Parents’ Choice Recommended Seal. “Just for Fun!” was also awarded an iParenting Media Award in 2003. iParenting is the “leading producer of quality parenting content in magazines, newspaper, radio and the Internet.” Their newest CD “Cool Cats” was released in December 2006.
With a delightful mix of songs and musical styles, "C. Shells" will have children of all ages laughing, smiling and stamping their feet. From rock ''n'' roll to Cajun, waltzes to ragtime, blues to bluegrass, Cindy and Shelly want everyone to have fun at their concerts, so check your repertoire of dog barks and duck quacks and bring them to the show!

Ms. Cindy Kays

Dear Cindy,

First, please accept my apologies for not writing sooner following your show at our store in November. ‘Tis the season to be busy!

Cindy, each time I have had the good fortune to have C. Shells perform at my stores, I’m amazed. Where do you and Shelly find all the energy & devotion to put on the show that you two do?

Your performances are frolicking fast-paced fun for the entire family! Over my many years of having performers come into various venues, I have frankly been accustomed to disappointment…someone who was good once, later isn’t…the show might be inconsistent…or some other letdown. That has never happened with https://www.tradebit.comlls. Rather, just the opposite. Each time, your material & performance improves…and it was very good to start with!

I guess the most exciting thing for me is that truly the whole family can enjoy your shows. I have booked other artists that claim they will be of interest to everyone in the family, only to find out that’s true…only if the whole family ranges between 5 & 7 years of age! In your shows, Mom, Dad, the kids and EVERYONE is involved. With your great use of audience participation, even those who are, shall we say “musically challenged” are cheerfully involved and are enriched by the experience. I have to tell you that I myself was “clicking my claws” with Sandy Claws during that number.

Besides the wonderfully energetic performance, the content of the songs is quite good. While some children’s performers don’t use the opportunity to teach anything, you do, and thank you! I was impressed that you could weave a “save the bay” ecological theme into a catchy song and really have the kids (and parents!) understand and enjoy hearing the message. As a former music educator too, your use of native & international folk instruments, and letting the children play them, is impressive.

This is all to say, “thanks!” Your shows are always a delight and I look forward to the next one…soon!

Sincerely,

Vince DeLap

LETTER FROM A FAN
My name is Abbey. I am 6 years old. I love your music. I have the "Animal Talks" and "Singing with C Shells" tapes. Are there any others? Plan 9 in Charlottesville only has these 2. My mom and dad are sick of the same 2 tapes playing in the car since we heard you at the Library in Charlottesville in July. We listened to these 2 tapes all the way to Disneyworld and back in the car this summer and mom and dad know most of the songs now too! I know all the songs and my favorite is Cyril the Skunk and the State Laugh Song. Please let us know if and how we can get more
tapes. If you don''t have more, please record a new one! Hope to see you in Charlottesville soon. I would love you to come to my school, Woodbrook Elementary, in Charlottesville!

Your fan and friend,
Abbey Andrews

Dear C Shells:

Thank you SO much for coming way out to Greene County for today''s performance at the library. It was absolutely delightful and the grownups enjoyed it just as much, if not more, than the kids! Because we are so rural in the mountains, it''s really such a rare treat for us to enjoy such talent as yours. You guys are so Fantastic! We wish you all good luck on your summer tour and hope you can come back again real soon. Thank you so much and God bless.
