Details:
A drifter hailing from India, 26 year old Raj Rasa set off on an adventure to experience every aspect of the United States. After coming to America to go to music school, Raj Rasa got kicked out of a music conservatory in California and decided to instead leave and travel around the country with his dog playing music at any venue, open-mic, or sidewalk that he could find.
Passing through the shady northwest in Portland, Oregon he settled down for a spell to record an album. The result was the first volume of Center Circle, a beautiful, personal, and expansive album. Lush in acoustical orchestration, Raj''s debut album is filled with a foray of arrangements, spanning from symphony structures to opera singers to banjo and sitar instrumentation. Additionally, it has western classical and eastern Indian raga influences, which make his music unique and incomparable.
Center Circle is a four-volume set of albums about living in a downtown traffic circle area and the stories of the people and places there. The first volume (northeast) is about leaving the place where Raj called home. The remaining volumes integrate aspects of Raj''s downtown life with stories of traveling around the country.
Raj is currently working on the second LP of the Center Circle project with producer N.C. Skolrud for an April 2007 release date. He continues to travel around the country, meet other musicians, and play his music.
