JAZZ/FUNK BAND SWEATSHOP VENTURES INTO POP SCENE WITH NEW SINGLE, "SO FINE" (10/14/06)
The Katonah, NY-based jazz/funk group Sweatshop’s latest single, “So Fine,” is a catchy, youthful, and grooving pop/R&B song, exploring a unique genre from the band’s traditional repertoire. The project began this summer and will be released November 1, exclusively on the band’s website, https://www.tradebit.com. Shaul Dover, owner of the independent label Sweatshop Records, produced and engineered the song.
Composed and co-produced by son Edan Dover, the song features Adrian Galvin, whose fresh and vivacious voice perfectly suites the modern and trendy melodies. Inspired by the soulful R&B tracks of Marvin Gaye and James Brown and the punctual and rhythmic tunes of Maroon 5, ”So Fine” is a refreshing and distinctive change from the jazz-concentrated album Overtime. The lyrics complete the song, written by Sara and Edan Dover.
"It was kind of an experiment,” says Edan, about Sweatshop’s venture into the pop arena. Nevertheless, it was a successful experiment that will be making its way into the mainstream music scene.
