Journey Toward the Heart is a culmination of Mark and Laura''s love of the transformational and healing qualities of music. Using grand piano, traditional silver flute. Lemurian flute and Native American wooden flutes, the duo weaves a tapestry of intention and art to create a soundscape that transports one to the inner realms of awareness, opening, and awakening.
Mark Torgeson is a classically trained pianist whose spontaneously created songs are passionate, joyful and filled with heartfelt expression. Drawing inspiration from nature and the cosmos, he delights audiences with his sense of childlike wonderment and unbridled enthusiasm. Mark''s style is classically influenced with an orientation toward the romantic and impressionistic, with hints of jazz and world idioms. His repertoire is all original, with free improvisation forming a strong foundation in his performances. He believes we are at a major juncture in human consciousness - a time when music will be used to accelerate our ability to change by opening the heart and doorways of perception. He draws from the rich traditions of classical music and jazz to weave a tapestry both sophisticated and spontaneous. Through the themes of nature and the cosmos, one hears in this music the pulse of earthy elements and the sweeping cosmological stories of the stars. Mark''s expression is always playful, full of surprise, fueled by whim and the emotion of joy!
Ever since a young age, Laura Jackson has shared her heart through her flute music. She’s performed solo and with concert bands, symphony orchestras, chamber groups and in combination with harp, piano and guitar. Over time her flute stylings have evolved to reflect an unparalleled versatility ranging from classical, modern, jazz, folk and Irish/Celtic. In recent years, the expansion of Laura’s playing into Native American flute and new age music has ignited her creativity into a free-flowing expression that inspires, uplifts and transforms her listeners. She currently teaches privately in Virginia Beach, Virginia and performs along the East Coast.
