Karl Wohlwend performs throughout the United States as a soloist and in chamber music collaborations. He shares the stage with such notables as Eric Ewazen, composer-in-residence at Julliard; Carlo Aonzo, the world''s leading classical mandolinist; and Grammy-winning countertenor, Ian Howell. Recent appearances include performances with the Lancaster Festival Orchestra, with whom he recorded a Grammy-nominated recording of the music of William Bolcom; a week-long residency with Alarm Will Sound; and a performance at the Ravinia Festival’s “Rising Stars” series in Chicago. Karl has also recently formed the Eos Duo with flutist Kimberlee Goodman, and regularly performs with Eugene Braig in Gruviera Armonico.
His devotion to the rich, 500-year repertoire for guitar is apparent to audiences everwhere, prompting the Washington, DC Guitar Society to note his “command of technique, beautiful tone, and sensitive musicianship,” while the Outer Banks Forum for the Lively Arts (Kitty Hawk, NC) praises his “extraordinary talent.” He has received numerous awards for his playing, including high recognition at the prestigious Great Lakes International Classical Guitar Competition.
