Details:
“As You Spend Your Life” is a look into the heart, home and essence of Chicago singer-songwriter Joanie Pallatto. This recording is an evolution of all of her life’s passions, creating new songs that identify her unique and modern vision.

These are “Pop Songs with a Jazz Sensibility.”

Pallatto has enlisted her usual cohorts, musicians that raise the bar in any recording project. You’ll hear guitar giant Fareed Haque, harmonica master and pianist Howard Levy, and a special feature with jazz legend, pianist and singer Bob Dorough on the great Frank Foster tune, "Simone” – (with new lyrics by Pallatto.) You''ll also hear Bradley Parker-Sparrow, Dave Onderdonk, Eric Hochberg, Michael Raynor, Alex Austin, Greg Fundis, Jason Smart and Larry Gray with vocalists April Aloisio, Nanette Frank, Diane Madison, and Teresa Davis!

Liner Notes by Katerina:
Listening to a new song and recognizing that your emotions have responded is one thing.
Actually sitting down to write a detailed account of what your emotions have recognized is another story.

To write an artist''s liner notes is a gambler''s venture . . .
Actually, it is the artist who is the gambler.
It is the artist who travels life''s mornings and nights with dice in pocket.
It''s a numbers game -
Melody, Lyric, Arrangement.
Of course it is . . .

''Will they like it, or not.
Will they "get it", or not.
Will they care, or not.
Will the melody move them, or not.
Am I ready to share this, or not.''

Every waking reality, every sleeping dream -
waits for the artist''s dice to fall where they may.

For musician, singer, composer & arranger Joanie Pallatto, the dice have fallen across the worthy gravel of many genres.

This album comes at a time in Pallatto''s life - a time when this ''downright iconoclastic'' artist (DownBeat) might be reflecting on a lifetime:

Reflections of one''s life expressed in avant-garde,
Scat in jazz,
Nostalgia – “Into The Looking Glass” – reminiscent of the Bacharach of the 70s,
A walk on a rainy afternoon in Paris (Howard Levy''s subtle, romantic harmonica),
Bob Dorough''s uber-cool phrasing,
Dave Onderdonk’s beauty in the bare, comforting resignation found in the chord changes of Pallatto''s words – “We Got It”,
Fareed Haque''s expansive harmonic treatment of the lyric on “And He''s Growing Old” truly becomes the protagonist''s melancholy; it evokes that timeless beauty found in music held dearest to one''s heart.
Sparrow''s piano speaks in many voices. His playing travels to far away places & returns with even more stories to tell.
And a cool & sexy Jamaican-Costa Rican number (“Playa Bonita”) where “Roy Ayers meets Grace Jones” harmonies conjure up images of cool dudes in cool hats & beautiful women with smooth island cleavage swaying in harmony . . .

Joanie Pallatto has always had an affinity with harmony in music.

On this album, she gives us the playful, the cool, the nostalgic: all in harmony, all in "As You Spend Your Life".
