From their bleak student flat at 660 Castle Street Dunedin, emerged a unique sound which could be described as a fresh Kiwi fusion of roots, reggae, hip hop, dubstep, and drum and bass. A sound, which over the past couple of years has resonated, catching people’s attention and creating huge demand.
Embracing the internet, Six60 have built a impressive Facebook following with over 42,000 fans. They initially released their music via their website before recording a 7 track EP that has sold over 7,000 copies exclusively from their Six60 site .
This year has seen the band consistently sell out shows in New Zealand promoted only by word of mouth and their ever increasing database. Without an album in stores, a single at radio or a video on TV, they sold out the Powerstation in Auckland (1,000 capacity) and sold out their first Australian tour pulling an impressive 600 punters in Sydney. Over summer Six60 have been booked on all the major NZ festivals including Big Day Out, Rhythm and Vines, Ladeda and Homegrown.
Six60 recently released their first single ‘Rise Up 2.0’ which debuted in the charts at No 5, is currently still in the Top 10 and has just sold GOLD! The band are presently writing their highly anticipated debut album, to be released mid 2011.
