Hailing from the land of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Caetano Veloso, Brazilian singer and guitarist Amanda Soares has been surrounded by music her entire life. Now working as a political reporter in Phoenix, Arizona, she also plays music professionally, calling forth a wide range of influences from her native land. Her naturally fluid style is reminiscent of the barzinhos and cafes of Copacabana as she transports audiences to other times and places, if only as long as the music lasts.
Recently returning from a year in Bahia where he was playing professionally in Salvador’s vibrant music scene, Johnny Finn has a thirst for rhythm. This quest for groove has also led him to Havana, Cuba and Ghana, West Africa. Currently based in Richmond, VA, Johnny recently completed his dissertation on music and social movements in Brazil.
LIVE 12.12.10 is a musical tour of Brazil with rhythms from Baião to Bossa Nova, Samba to Brazilian funk, and even a little cha-cha-cha thrown in for good measure. With the help of Paul Lucas (guitar), Manny Brito and Glenn Stern (bass), Dom Moio and Joe Goglia (percussion), Yonatan Miller (violin), Petre Scafaru (tenor sax), and Gabe Hall-Rodrigues (accordion), LIVE 12.12.10 was recorded live on stage in downtown Tempe, Arizona.
