“A” List - #1 shopping suggestion - An AFTER FOUR Christmas
AFTER FOUR have worked with Canadian legends Peter Appleyard, Phil Nimmons and Juno award-winning producer Kevin Doyle. They perform with many of the great local jazz & classical musicians in South Western Ontario.
The group has concentrated on a combination of high quality harmony vocals and ‘made-in-Canada’ arrangements. They have a wide repertoire of old standards and new alike – and they are enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
On this Christmas CD - AFTER FOUR members have arranged most of the tracks - this is an important creative part of jazz disc. Some of the points of interest on the tracks are:
Track 2) Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
-our arrangement in 5/4 time – unusual, but seamless
Track 4) Let it Snow
-our arrangement with a Latin feel applied to this favourite tune – very fun!
Track 13) The Huron Carol
-one of our most unique arrangements, 5/4 time, then to a jig
-incredible sharing, learning and music-making with Kettle Point native drumming group
Track 3) Snowfall
- just so delicious and smooth
Track 5) The Holly and the Ivy
-unusual voicings and haunting harmonies – again, our own arrangement top to bottom
Track 9) A Child is Born
-an instrumental standard – not necessarily Christmas – but warm saxophone
with our own vocal arrangement (not usually performed with vocals)
Track 8) Baby It’s Cold
- we reversed the roles of girl/boy parts for a refreshing surprise – lots of support vocals, too
