A soundtrack was needed for the sort film "Professor Flanigan in the Twelve Steps to Boozers Anonymous". While the film was in post production, Producer George M. Flanigan had a dream of the professor dancing on a stage at a night club and the party goes were singing “Oh he’s living it up, living it up”. Upon awakening to his alarm clock he remembered the dream and told his girlfriend what he had seen and heard. He sang her the melody and she began to laugh. A few days later he began to compose the music. He then persuaded his girlfriend to co-write the lyrics with him. Once the music and lyrics came together the recording began. George would narrate the story of Professor Flanigan and Brandy N. Conn would use her beautiful voice to sing the hook of the song. Shanna R. Flanigan was brought in to do backup vocals to give the chorus a more Janis Joplin feel.
