Music has always been a part of my life in one form or another. I started singing in my early childhood and at the age of 18 my interest and curiosity developed into a genuine passion as I began to teach myself piano. In 2006 I joined the roster at Edmonton Alberta’s premier dueling piano bar The Ivory Club and I am currently dueling pianos at Overtime Broiler & Tap Room in Sherwood Park.
When it comes to writing songs, I like to try to sonically recreate an image or visualization that I see in my head. Some of the songs on the record were written based on an idea for a music video I''d had, or incorporated sounds that exemplified the theme I was striving for. One song, in particular, was written about a mental disorder and so was recorded using nothing but my voice - whispers, hums, beat-box rhythms, and layered vocal lines - to sonically imply the many voices perhaps heard within the subject''s head. This approach was key to bringing the album together as a cohesive whole. In it, you''ll hear the ring of a metal garbage can lid, the thrum of a stroked lamp-shade, the crystalline chime of a struck wine-glass, even the sound of a toilet plunger suctioning to the floor. Its all in there adding layers and textures that would not be possible without them.
I want people to experience my songs on every level, not just the sonic level. I want them to see and taste and smell and feel the music; to immerse themselves in it. I haven''t done my job otherwise.
