For the rapper TrePaper, being ‘Fly’ is a lifestyle, “I try to present a fly image from the way I dress, to the way I think, to the type of fun I have, to the way I rap.” Being fly also means learning from early mistakes and choosing to be educated and do the right thing with life and music, rather then let his past dictate the future. “I want to influence young people and show that what works for some people doesn’t work for everyone. You have to find a lifestyle that works for you.” Already featured as an upcoming artist in Showcase Magazine, TrePaper has had two songs (Summatime, Pop ya Trunk) from Them Supervillans’ “This Iz How Its Supposed To Be Dun” played on 106 KMEL for four consecutive weeks. On his latest album, “Hate If U Want” (available on iTunes), lyrics inspired by the truth of life and jotted onto his Sidekick were matched to beats that bang in the club or the car, and hooks that sound like they have a story to them. In addition to live performances, TrePaper has recorded with Bay Area artists Nump, JT tha Bigga Figga, Mike Marshall, Mr. Sandman, Sonny Forecast, Droop E, and B Slim, as well as North Carolina’s Big Cas. Born in Austin, Texas, TrePaper was shuffled between his divorced Mother and Father, finding solace in the beats of a RUN-DMC tape he found. At 15, he discovered Jay Z and started filling notebooks with his own rhymes, but his dreams were soon sidelined when his girlfriend became pregnant and TrePaper moved out to California to be a responsible father. He rediscovered music in the Bay Area’s independent rap scene, where he learned how to count bars, book studio time, and buy beats from local producers. Costs started adding up, and desperate to pursue his dream, TrePaper turned to illegal activities to make the cash he needed to buy equipment and start producing his own music. While working his debut album, “The Way I See It Iz How I Spit It” with local rap artist/engineer Nump, the law caught up with TrePaper and he served six months in jail, where he wrote songs and came up with a game plan for his music career. The record was released in 2003, and he and Nump formed a group called Them Supervillans and released “This Iz How Its Supposed To Be Dun” in 2005. TrePaper released his second solo album, “Hate If U Want” on his own. Currently working on his third album with producers from across the country, TrePaper is ready for whatever lessons life has in store as he unleashes his unique hip hop lifestyle on the masses.
