Out to prove herself everyday, Kristy Hanson is determined to take over the scene in 2010 by using the same method that has taken her this far: hard work measured in blistered fingers and miles traveled. Powered by vocal chords of lioness strength, a polished guitar sound, and a sensibility that blends the intimate with the universal, Kristy’s music demands attention and instantly takes you in.
Kristy has come a long way from her formative years in Miami, recording herself on a Fisher-Price tape recorder. She studied Vocal Performance at the University of Michigan where she met her future husband and bassist, Mike Chiaburu. The two of them recorded an EP there and put together a number of bands. Kristy''s experiences at school cemented her desire to move out to Los Angeles and pursue a career in singing and song writing.
Being on the road is important for any musician, and Kristy played at venues all over the United States as part of her 20-show tour in 2008. In Los Angeles, she''s played at famous venues including The Key Club, The Viper Room, and Hotel Cafe. Honing her skills both on the road and in the studio has paid off tremendously, as evidenced by her growing, loyal fan base and increased radio presence across the country.
Kristy''s new album, Into the Quiet, was largely funded by donations from fans. Her tiered donation system gave back to the fans by gifting albums, downloads and concerts; a $100 donation gave fans an advanced copy of the album, a mention in the liner notes, and an early download of her first single, “Second Fiddle." while a $1000 donation offered fans a living room concert from Kristy. Every fan who donated on any level had the chance to vote for the title of her new album. Her devout following raised over $5000, which is a true testament to her fans'' loyalty.
A group of extremely talented musicians complemented Kristy''s vocals and acoustic guitar on "Into the Quiet," perhaps making it her most successful recording yet. Aaron Sterling (Kelly Clarkson, Sara Bareilles) joins on drums, Mike Chiaburu (Rossif Sutherland) on the bass and Peter Adams (Tracy Bonham, Butterfly Boucher) on keyboards. Versatile guitarist Timothy Young (Jessie Baylin, Rufus Wainwright) also produced the album. "I think that the full, rock band sound we were able to get with Tim''s production and with the talent of my whole team really brought my music to a new level. I think there''s something for everyone on this album, and I''m excited to see how people will respond," Kristy says. Engineer Ryan Freeland (Aimee Mann, Ingrid Michaelson) recorded and mixed the album, and Grammy award-winning engineer Gavin Lurssen (Allison Krauss & Robert Plant) mastered it.
