Details:

Kari Marguerite is a soulful, jazz-influenced songstress from Spokane Washington. Her playful sultry style is reminiscent of the the unabashed pop of Sara Barielles, the throwback soul of Amy Winehouse, and the come-hither stylings of Fiona Apple.

Raised in a Butte, Montana, Kari was introduced to Jazz and Swing at an early age, by her father who played Trombone in various swing big bands. A desire to learn how to play her own instrument lead to piano lessons at the age of 8. In junior high school, Kari joined the orchestra playing the cello and began taking vocal lessons. In high school, she joined the swing choir.

A desire to see something a bit more of the world, led to college in Colorado, and then her first professional job in Spokane, Washington. "Basically, I was very young, in a field where I worked independently and interacted with so few young people...I was very lonely," says Kari Marguerite. "I wanted to do something to meet other people. I loved playing my huge antique piano, but it was so unportable. I thought I''d learn the guitar and hit some open mic nights and make some friends."

Kari Marguerite was set up with a group of guitar students who met for impromptu jam nights. At one of these Jam nights, she met her to-be writing partner, Sam Anderson. She and Sam formed a variety of bands and acts over the years, performing original music in clubs around the local Spokane Area. In 2009, her band, Cure All Remedy, disbanded, and she decided to strike out on her own and pursue a new musical direction.

Taking her first love of Jazz and combining it with the soulful-pop stylings of artists she had come to admire (Jill Scott, Amy Winehouse, Nikka Costa, Fiona Apple, Norah Jones, Lilly Allen and Sara Barielles) Kari Marguerite began forming a style of music that was uniquely her own. "I, for the first time in my musical career, could call the shots," says Kari Marguerite. "I wrote songs that were just for me. I sang in the style that I chose. I felt like I was becoming the artist I had always wanted to be."

In October of 2009, Kari Marguerite began working on her debut album with Producer, Eddie Ramirez. The self titled LP is a 12 song journey through the fantastic and the everyday. "The jubilation of new love, the deep understanding of mature love, cautionary tales, and even my dorky sense of humor, " says Kari Marguerite, "I think these songs speak to the heart, and make you bop your head at the same time."

The debut album is set for release on Feb 19 2010. Kari Marguerite and her band, The Seventy-Six can be found performing in and around the local Spokane/CDA area and are planning tours around the northwest United States.
