I like this album a lot. This is a classy affair. But then again, you would expect anything less from vocalist Michael Bormann.
Two things in particular help my appreciation and love of this CD. Firstly - I am a big fan of Michael Bormann in both Jaded Heart and now with Rain also. Secondly, I love moody stripped back releases in this vein.
It''s nice to have some really good quality soft and moody music to relax to after a hard day of rocking.
This is the perfect thing. You get the power of a great vocalist, but the mood of a laid back, stripped back acoustic driven ballads record.
On the Rain album, Bormann does his best softer style raspy vocals, but on this solo album he takes it back another unplugged step. It''s a cool result though. Like I said, as long as you are aware it''s very laid/stripped back.
Take the ride through the album''s 11 tracks and you won''t find any fillers. There''s a mix of electric and acoustic driven songs, with the emphasis on acoustic.
And Michael plays all instruments as well as writing and singing. Clever chap isn''t he?
Can''t Stop Missing You is all mood and soul, while Best Is Yet To Come (not the Rain demo track) sees Bormann at his powerful raspy best.
How Many Times is mid tempo and features some cool eclectric guitar. This is about as upbeat as it gets and is the closest to Jaded Heart as this release comes.
BOTTOM LINE: I won''t recommend this to every Jaded Heart fan, but I will recommend it to anyone who has heard and loved the Rain release. If you are already a Bormann fan, don''t be afraid of the nature of this release. It might be soft and acoustic based, but it is built on a foundation of great catchy melodic rock songs.
