Details:
Ghana was born in St Elizabeth Jamaica, in an area known as Great Bay. He comes from a family of music lovers. In a country that is so involved in reggae it was natural that he would be drawn to the genre. At the age of nine he started making his own guitars from wood and fishing line and made his drums from any old pots and cans that were lying around the house. Like a lot of teenagers however his teen years were captivated by sports and it wasn''t until he graduated from high school and saw his friend Dirts playing the guitar that he wanted to learn too. So with a few tips from his friend and a lot of enthusiasm he was able to take the instrument home. After constant practice this self- taught musician was soon writing his own songs and playing them at local concerts. Soon he wanted to hit the big times so he moved to Kingston to live with his cousin Fabian who was a singer and had a hit called Dynamite. Soon he got involved and was playing with a band called Krabbit with his friend Newton, and also P.E.P with whom he did his first tour to the Cayman Islands. Then it was off to the tourist city of Montego Bay. After two years playing the resorts and a stint with Carnival Cruise Lines he moved to Negril. This move saw the birth of Frontpage Band with three other friends (Frontpage is still his backing band even though there are some new faces) came his first CD (vinyl and cassette) called Lip Service (later reissued as Frontpage Sessions). Of the twelve songs on that album he wrote and produced nine. After years of playing all over the island with his band and providing backing service for all the top names, another avenue was opened. A couple of the band members left in the mid 90''s to tour Mexico with another band. Well with his two friends gone it was just months later that his opportunity arose and he moved to the USA. Upon his arrival in Chicago he played with the Indika Band for several years. While playing with the band he recorded his second CD called Somebody which provided two medium hits Boom Pi Ti Boom and Low life. In December 2000 he relocated to Florida. Since then he toured Mexico, performed in Jamaica and the US, shot his video profile leaving little time but he was still able to write, produce and perform his latest CD Out Of Great Bay with a little help from his brother Owen and a few friends. He is currently performing and writing new material for himself and others. Recently completed a compilation called the Veg Rhythm which is getting lots of airplay in Jamaica.
