Biography
Mark Hershberger, the leader of the Global Jazz Project was born and raised in the Detroit, Michigan area. His influences include John Coltrane; Eric Dolphy, and Sonny Rollins with a rich history including performing and composing jazz over the last 40 years both regionally and nationally. He is fortunate to have studied jazz saxophone with legendary saxophonist Sam Sanders. He was also mentored and played with musical legends such as Harold McKinney, Jimmy Allen, Marcus Belgrave, Doc Holiday, Michael Colone, Badal Roy, Perry Robinson, Muruga Booker, Don Sinta, Cliff Leaman and Ed Sarath just to name a few. His history also includes playing horns for Detroit Motown scene backing up STAX legends “Sam & Dave” for various Detroit appearances. Mark performed with Thad Jones, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Kenton while playing with the Oakland University AFRAM Big Band and with Michael Colone in the futuristic jazz group Prismatic Band. Mark joined legendary New Orleans vocalist Corliss Randall in London Soho district at “Jazz After Dark” in 08 for a night of wild music

Mark Hershberger recently updated members in the organization he calls the Global Jazz Project and they are as HOT as ever. New additions to the cast of characters are.... Jerry LeDuff - congas, Ken Kozora - drums, Bastian Trimpe - guitar in addition to original members Mark Hershberger, Andy Szadyr, Michael Colone and Richard Smith. These multi-talented musicians began collaboration, performance and recording in December of 2010. The group of musicians has a colorful history and their paths have brought them together to perform Avant-garde jazz and find new dimensions and concepts in jazz and all genres of music.

They each have performed at major festivals, concerts, clubs, film and radio, corporate events and private engagements across the world. Some of these engagements include performing at Flint Jazz Festival, Detroit International Jazz Festival, Detroit''s Baker''s Keyboard Lounge, Bert''s Jazz Marketplace, Ford Field, Nelsons Ledges, The Ark and Carnegie Hall. They are emerging as a leaders in the jazz and Avant-garde and continue their journey by performing and composing stuff that is "out of this world". This group has a vision to take the global jazz project and there music beyond the limits of time and space. Together these musicians form the extraordinary Global Jazz Project with a sound that emphasizes the Detroit Jazz lineage in Avant-garde, Free and Traditional jazz....
