Details:
I began reading very early English poetry to find poems to set to music. I continued reading through centuaries of poetry. I wanted to bring their beautiful words to life in music, so people would be inspired by their emotion and power, in a new form. I set the ones I loved and found most beautiful to melodies. My search opened a doorway into profound poetry that truly spoke to me. I had found a way to express feelings and insights with marvelous style and natural rhythm, perfect for harp and guitar accompaniment. This eight year journey led me through time to more modern poets in the public realm. I then discovered the repertoire of light-filled Australian poetry. Australia was a new land to these poets, and they were greatly inspired by the beauty of Nature. Here I''ve included three works: Bread & Wine, Love in a Cottage, and Twenty Gallons of Sleep.

I drew from W. B. Yeats, William Wordsworth, Percy Shelly, Ben Jonson, Christopher Marlowe, George Wither, Robert Bridges and lesser known Australian poets, Inez K Hyland, Agnes Storrie, and Daniel Henry Deniehy. Also included is one of my own poems “A Birthday Wish”, set to the music “Fanny Power”, by the great Irish composer and harper Turlough O’Carolan. The festive ”A Birthday Wish” and spirited “A Christmas Carol” round out the CD and make charming music gifts.

Eight musical companions joined me, in different configurations, to create twelve enchanting tracks. It was pure joy to record with them, and I am eternally grateful for their support on this project. They are: T.G. Vanini - Fiddle, Jude Roberts - guitar, bass & harmony vocals, Peter Blue - nyckelharpa, accordion & bodhran, James Krueger - lead guitar & harmony vocals, Julie Parisi Kirby, and Terry Blaine - harmony vocals, Ian Worpole - mandolin, and Henry Hermann - bass fiddle. I sing and play Celtic harp or guitar on all tracks.

I chose the title “Kalliope''s Grace” because Kalliope is the eldest of the nine Greek Muses - the Muse of epic poetry and eloquence. Kalliope was Homer’s muse.
