My first single, “My Time Baby” was described by visitors to Triple J Unearthed as: “Fantastic original music”, “Heartfelt lyrics with a great beat”, “… honest, original and well crafted” and as having “great lyrics
and a great melody” (https://www.tradebit.com
As a guitarist, my early influences included Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Band, Jeff Buckley, The Doors and Nick Cave. More recently I have been inspired by Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Damien Rice, and my music has been described as ‘folky-pop’ with a vague similarity to James Blunt and Pete Murray. My musical life started at about age 12, when I took up the drums. I played in a couple of bands including school-band ‘The Visions’, and then I learnt the guitar. Toward the end of school life and into uni days I formed ‘Heartland’ with a couple of mates, playing covers and playing at weddings, parties and any function we could talk our way into. In Heartland, a three-piece band including drums and bass, I played guitar and sang. After a few years of playing at uni bars and parties ‘Heartland’ disbanded.
Around the mid-90s, I found out Sydney-band ‘Orpheus’ was looking for a drummer, so I got myself another drum kit and joined them. After playing the Sydney pub scene for a few years, ‘Orpheus’ started to go places. Unfortunately, work and study made it difficult to keep up with the ever-increasing demands of the band so I finally left ‘Orpheus’ (who, by the way, are now doing very well and called ‘The Camels’) but started writing and recording solo works.
Around 2000, I decided I really wanted to get my solo works recorded and began working on my debut solo album. The album was recorded at ''The Vault'' studios, in Balmain, and was produced by James Cadsky and myself. It features Darren (Fud) Ryan on Drums, Greg Royal on Bass and Darryl Chute on Keyboards - plus a few other guest musicians. The CD is an independent release on a record label I set up for the purpose, called Creative Pursuits. It’s taken way too long to release my debut, self-titled album, but now it’s out there, and is expected to be just the start!
