BLUES IS TRUTH

“on a hot summer night in London 2 guys together with some special friends got together to record a live album of blues..... this is the result ... an awe inspiring album ... proving that the Blues scene is alive and kicking and in very good hands ...or fingers maybe ...there is not one track on this album that I could describe as iffy … If you have heard the music ... on our music page ... you will surely understand ....Ian McHugh on guitar and vocals is surely one of the most laid back musically aware guitarists I have had the pleasure to hear ... Brian Soundy on Bass ... well he keeps the whole thing together ... and Herman Mendonca has a feel for the drums that is unique ....the beauty about live albums as I am constantly saying is that what you hear is what you get ... a sound engineers nightmare ...... but Andy Cleydnert has done a most excellent job ..... Blues is Truth asked Bob Draper (harmonica) and John Faireather (keyboards) to join them ... what a result for the listener .... the album is from start to finish a delight.. the Band are embarking on a tour of the Czech Republic in March ... and are continuing to increase their following by having radio plays worldwide ... I urge you all to listen to them and if you are lucky enough to be near the Bulls Head in Barnes London when they are playing ...get in there!!” CD.

Ravi Khanolkar 27 October 2006 this is for.......................I''m a blues and clasic rock radio jocky in India. I''ve played music of blues musicians starting from the very first blues recording ever made and have come all the way to the present. Blues is Truth put out by Songcatcher Records is undoubtedly among the finest new blues records i''ve heard. It''s not just the music but the spirit with which it''s played. And that can be felt right thru the album. I''m eagerly looking forward to hearing more from their stables. This is the kind of music i thrive on and love to play on my shows. Ravi Khanolkar

BLUES IS TRUTH are a new and emerging British blues band.
Hailing from the fertile ''Thames Delta'' that spawned the likes of Eric Clapton, Peter Green and the Rolling Stones, they take the legacy of those who came before them and build on it to provide some of the best blues you are ever likely to hear.

Whilst the band may be new, the trio that forms the core of this dynamic musical unit are anything but, bringing with them a huge amount of experience in well known bands both local and international, along with a love for true blues.

The band was formed after the guitarist,Ian, and bassist, Brian were brought together for a jam. From the first moments of this musical meeting it was evident that there was a rapport and understanding lacking in most bands. This, combined with the meeting of minds that was found in the pub after the jam meant a band was on the cards, that band is Blues is Truth.

Where this band is best is live, with a show that has been described as ''Immense''
by one reviewer, and an ability to entertain and involve any audience, this is a band to be experienced, rather than listened to remotely via a recording, for, whilst the recordings produced will stand up to the best of modern British blues, they are nothing when you compare them to a live show. There is a level of engagement between band an audience unlike most other exponents of the art, when you see them you will understand, audiences do not sit and listen, they dance, they sing themselves hoarse and smile from start to finish. In an interesting twist, the core trio are often joined on stage by guest artists, talents as great as the band themselves, who bring a freshness to performances, along with a certain unpredictability that makes for a great show.

IAN McHUGH, Guitar & Vocals

Despite being the youngest member of the band Ian has no lack of talent or experience. Born in 1975 and brought up in the wilds of Chiswick, Ian took up the guitar seriously at the age of 15, the first thing he learned being a one string version of the Trogg''s ''Wild thing''. Which he got wrong. Thing was, this simple one string lick seemed to sound and feel like it had more in common with the cool blues music that his friends were listening to than what it was supposed to be. This, combined with an investigation of the genre that started with Eric Clapton and went all the way back to pre Robert Johnson field hollers, instilled in Ian a deep love for the blues in all
it''s forms.

Ian''s influences are many and varied, he really does love all forms of blues, but parallels have been drawn between his guitar style and those of Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Freddy King and Buddy Whittington. His own personal take on blues is marked out by an ability to abandon himself to the music and ride it where it takes him, there is a certain madness to his playing, a crazy streak born of emotion.

It was only when Ian joined Blues is Truth that he began to sing seriously. Before that he had been a sideman in many local bands, including the Crawdaddy Club house band of the mid 90''s and BLiM, during this time he also ran a blues jam at the Bull and Bush in Richmond. Singing just seemed like the right thing to do at the fateful first jam, it came naturally as all great things should. He is lucky in that this natural voice he has found sounds like no other, he has not learned to sing by copying the sounds on records, but rather by finding his way to express the emotion he finds in the song. For Ian it feels like he has finally found his complete role in a band.

The combination of the two talents Ian has, along with his ability to engage and entertain an audience makes him a consummate front man for Blues is Truth. It isn''t a thought out and stage managed act when you see Blues is Truth live, Ian''s performance and showmanship are natural and unplanned, his ability to give an audience what it wants born from inspiration.

BRIAN SOUNDY, Bass, Vocals & Acoustic Guitar

Brian was born a long time ago, so long in fact that he feels that it best remains
left unsaid. This advanced age, however, has it''s benefits. Brian has been
playing music since before he can remember, and like Ian has always found
himself loving and playing the blues. He was around at the beginnings of the
blues boom that gripped Britain in the mid sixties, and was very much a part of
that scene, before he moved to Hamburg, Germany where he found himself an in
demand guitar player, backing a line up of blues greats that any fan would have
killed to have seen, and touring internationally with a number of acts.

It was on one of these international tours that Brian had a chance meeting with the great Stanley Clark, who during this meeting and the impromptu lesson that
accompanied it inspired a love for the bass that still drives Brian today. Ever since he returned to his band and showed them what he had learned from Stanley he has been the bass player in every band he''s been in.

This amount of experience, means Brian''s bass playing is peerless. From his
deep, rich and punchy sound to his dynamic ability to lock into any groove or
performance, there is no one who sounds quite this good or unique. There is a
synergy with the other elements of the band, bridging the gap between melody and rhythm, and allowing and driving both the guitar and drums to perform to their best, that is simply uncanny. It seems that he can conjour up Tommy Shannon, Jack Bruce and Duck Dunn simultaneously and still build on it. Brian really does sound like no-one else.

THE MUSIC

Blues is Truth play a huge variety of blues, with both original and covers included. While the originals may be new to you they are great songs, real blues and blend seamlessly with the standards that they perform. The standards are drawn from the catalogues of the blues greats including Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Buddy Guy, Howling Wolf, Junior Wells and many more. These covers are anything but note for note, they come from within the band themselves and are chosen because there is an emotional connection with the band. It is this emotion that is conveyed in the on stage performance, and it''s what makes the band different and special. The originals will be on an album that is currently being recorded and will be released on Songcatcher Records, in
the early summer.

FACTS AND FIGURES
