Details:
Wearing a Nudie suit and Chuck Taylor tennis shoes, Casey James Prestwood may not look like your average country star, but then again, his brand of vintage country is anything but average. Today’s country music isn’t what it used to be, but if you search hard enough you’ll find that real country isn’t dead.

In a world filled with pop-infused country acts, Casey James Prestwood’s solo debut The Hurtin’ Kind evokes memories of classic country from the good ol’ days of country rock n roll.

Best known for his groundbreaking work as lead guitarist and driving force behind emo/indie cornerstone group Hot Rod Circuit, Prestwood’s solo debut The Hurtin’ Kind is a genuine country album in true honky tonk spirit. When listening to the record you may find it hard to believe how such a sold country record could come from a player in one of the best-known indie rock bands of the late 90s and 2000s. Not one to stick to current trends, Casey gracefully sheds his hard rock skin to showcase his life-long passion of honky tonk.

Casey grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain in Alabama listening to country radio and his parents’ record collection, and was immediately drawn to Gram Parsons, Merle Haggard and countless other country heroes from the sixties and seventies. Now living in Colorado, Casey has spent the last seven years playing in country/rootsy side bands like Limbeck, The Only Children and Drag the River. A seasoned pedal steel player in his own right, Prestwood brought some of the finest musicians in to the studio. Featuring an eclectic cast ranging from Neil Flanz, Fallen Angels steel guitar player for Parsons himself, to Arabella Harrison, front woman of emo pioneers Jejune, Prestwood’s band helps to flesh out his vision. With a sound bringing back memories of Parsons, Waylon Jennings and Harvest-era Neil Young, Neil Flanz puts it best saying that The Hurtin’ Kind is “refreshingly country. I haven’t heard this kind of music in years.”
