About IF NOT FOR YOU

Originally intended to be a four song EP consisting only of the songs featuring Jack Tannehill, it was decided that it cost only a little more to release a complete album so why not invite a couple other artists to be part of the project?

The final result is an 11-song album, with four songs by Jack Tannehill, three by Will Hoppey, three by Steve Lane and one featuring vocals by Steve Sevek.

About Jack Tannehill
Jack''s songs, except for Mr. Tambourine Man, were recorded live at an annual Bob Dylan music event in 2005. Only the title track, IF NOT FOR YOU, is designated as a live recording because both EMOTIONALLY YOURS and FOREVER YOUNG while originally recorded live with Jack doing vocals and playing guitar and harmonica had additional instruments added later. MR. TAMBOURINE MAN was previously released on an album titled THINKING ABOUT BOB DYLAN, which was released in 2002 and which is now out of print [although limited quanities can still be found for sale]. This reissued track has been stripped down and remastered with only Jack''s vocals and his guitar and harmonica unlike the earlier release which featured added instrumentation. The thing that stands out most when it comes to Jack is his signature honey ''n gravel voice. While he has been compared with Steve Forbert, he really has a voice and style that is all his own. It is a rare thing for Jack to do covers at his own shows although he will occasionally cover Hank Williams more often than anyone else. Another thing you will appreciate about Jack is his songwriting ability but to appreciate that you will need to investigate the songs found on his other albums, GREATEST HINTS, EARLIER LATELY|THE VERY BLEST OF JACK TANNEHILL and INTRODUCING JACK TANNEHILL.

About Will Hoppey
Will Hoppey also appeared on the album, THINKING ABOUT BOB DYLAN. Will recorded FOREVER YOUNG for that earlier release but it is not included here due to the same song being covered by Jack . Instead you will find the following 3 songs recorded by Will Hoppey, all of which are solo renditions: LAY LADY LAY; JUST LIKE A WOMAN and DON''T THINK TWICE, IT''S ALL RIGHT. Anyone, who has had the opportunity to hear Will perform should marvel at his vocal abilities. When I think of Will, I think of the songs of Gene Pitney and Bobby Goldsboro and others have said that they think of Neil Diamond. For sure he could cover the songs of these artists and many others in a way that would make you want to hear more. And you can''t help but appreciate his guitar playing as much as his vocals. If you enjoy Will''s contribution to this album you will no doubt enjoy Will''s acoustic album which is simply titled, ekoostik. Will also has 2 other albums available: PLACES and LONELY HOTEL.

About Steve Lane
Steve Lane, we think you will agree, covers 3 Dylan songs, PEGGY DAY; MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE and SHE BELONGS TO ME, with his own velvety smooth vocal style. Steve, like Jack and Will is also a performing singer/songwriter who has written around 150 songs and who has been playing in the NY, NJ, PA tri-state area for about 12 years. You can find some of his songs posted on Facebook and MySpace. However, Steve has not yet released any albums.

About Steve Sevek
Track 10, PERCY''S SONG, features vocals by Steve Sevek. This is Steve''s first effort at singing. Being the producer of this album it was not his original intent to include himself as one of the vocalists. In fact he does not consider himself to be a vocalist by any stretch of the imagination, but here was an opportunity, so why not go for it? Steve has written a number of songs himself but does not play an instrument and is not a singer. One of his songs, YOU SAY YOU KNOW ME, was recorded by Blake Luquette on his first album titled WHAT IF? Not knowing whether or not he should waste his money on trying to sing a song himself, he decided to give it his best effort anyway thinking that he could either include the track or cancel it and keep it off the disc and avoid any further embarrassment. PERCY''S SONG was selected because Steve thought he could manage the vocals and because it was a song that hasn''t been covered by many artists and also because, for some reason, Steve is drawn to sad songs. The music was recorded by Holston Valley Music in Bristol, TN and the song was mastered by Big Label Sound Studio in Los Angeles, CA. Is it any good? Should it be on this album or should it have been left off? Hopefully someone will appreciate it for what it is, one less item left on Steve''s bucket list.
