Joe Solo has in his time been a busker, a barman, a kerb counter, a warehouse hand, a copywriter and an engineer. His musical odyssey began in 1987 fronting a bash-em-out band at school, and has seen him play in seven countries either as the lynchpin of pop-punk upstarts Lithium Joe or hammering out his unique brand of folk, punk and blues in his own right.
2011 sees Joe keep his promise of “an album a year ‘til I drop down dead” with the release of the 11-track CD “If Peel Street Could Talk”. Described as ‘songs of hope for troubled times’, the album finds Joe at his most poignant bringing tales of struggle and redemption to life as only he can.
But it doesn’t end there.
This year also sees the launch of “Stories from Potter’s Field Vol I”, a book co-written with Andy Wilson and based around characters created by Joe in his 2009 album of First World War songs “Music from Potter’s Field”. The pair will take both songs and stories out on the road in the spring, and are at present writing Volume II for a 2012 release.
Live, Solo has a growing reputation as both a performer and raconteur, being thought-provoking, comical and punch-the-air political often in the same breath.
He is not an artist you forget in a hurry.
