The band Jesus Loved Electro was formed in early 2009 in Paris, France. Thüryn Mitchell, canadian jazz pianist and composer met Julien Jolly, french drummer and percussionist while playing together with a jazz quartet. Through the weeks that followed, they instantly formed a musical bond. They discovered that they had a mutual love for many different musical genres, computers, techno geek stuff and what not.
They decided to push the musical boundaries of their respective instruments and technology related to electro music, exploring all the classical techno genres of the idiom, like: Drum & Bass, House, Minimal House, Funk, Downtempo, Glitch, R&B and even Rock. Having had thourough training in jazz and improvised music, both decided to mix those elements together into a very versatile and eclectic mix of music. Wether be Groove, Ambiant, Funky , World or Techno music, the overall musical results has a fresh urban hip feel that has people moving and grooving along with their music.
You could find in a typicall Jesus Loved Electro set: orchestral parts, sampled famous tunes, John Cage’s prepared piano, improvised musical dialogue set over a funk background between Mitchell’s harmonies and melodies and Jolly’s solid pulsating rythms, steaming away at their instruments. Never neglecting musical form. They are both composers, arrangers, orchestrators and artistic directors at the same time, deciding wich way the music should or should not go.
They hope to break musical boundaries and explore their creative musical sides without neglecting their forward thinking approach and artistic direction.
