If you were to ask me to describe when I began writing music, I would have to say that I started over 30 years ago. However, in all actuality, I have been singing since I could talk. This may not have always made my family happy, since I used to walk around the house with my headphones and sing to whatever I was listening to. By third grade, I had graduated to playing the recorder, which eventually led me to picking up the saxophone in the 5th grade, on up through 10th grade. In 10th grade, I joined a rock-n-roll band as sax player and vocalist. The dismantling of this band I would have to say was the actual beginning of my music writing, and interest in other instruments.
I''ve often been asked to explain my style of music. I would have to say that the fact that I was born in the mid-sixties in a northern suburban town, north of Detroit Michigan had a large influence on my style. At that time, two of the largest musical movements going on were Mo-town, and Rock-n-Roll. Being the youngest of seven, these types of music were always being played around the house by my brother''s and sister''s. At that time the hot new artists were Led Zeppelin, Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Diana Ross and the Supremes and the whole Motown scene. But I would have to say that the Beatles were the group that were most instrumental in the fact that music picked me. These artists inspired the upbeat, and strong lyrics and rhythms that are a signature in my music.
As a child, I can remember watching the Beatles perform, and making plans to perform on a stage someday. When I was in fourth grade, I managed to convince my principal to allow my friends and me to do a Beatles lip-syncing show for the whole school. We put on two shows and they were hits, thus fueling my desire to perform, as my way to express myself.
My wish is that my music will capture an audience of both young and old. I know that young people are the predominant consumers and buyers of music, however, I hope that what I have put together will reach out to both of these age groups.
My life has changed immensely for me over the past few years. In 2005, My wife and I welcomed our first child into the world. We doubled that in 2007 with the birth of our second child. My music took a back seat during the first few years of their lives. I''m Mr. Mom, so I take care of my children during the week. So my priorities were my children. They still are my priority, but I''ve been able to finally fit in some music time and finish my CD. I have to say being a stay at home father was the best decision I have ever made. I have an amazing relationship with both of my children. Now they are starting to jam with their dad. How cool is that!
The journey of recording my debut CD has been going on for about 8-8 ½ years, but in all actuality it has been in process for about 13 years. I started recording in people''s studios in their basements, but it got to a point where I decided to do something similar to the "Field of Dreams" concept. Build it, and they will come. So ultimately, I made a commitment to buy instruments, and equipment that would inspire me to produce music. The learning curb has been huge, that''s why I scrapped my first CD and recorded everything over from scratch. It was a huge commitment, but the first version of Lost in Razzi Berry Field wasn''t going to win many people over. I really loved the songs, but they weren''t recorded with the precision and patience that the revision was. Since I have finished my new project I''ve gotten really great response. The other thing is that I''m very proud of this work and I feel like this represents what I''m all about as a songwriter and a musician.
As far as my other areas of interest, I am a huge nature fan. I take advantage of any opportunity to trail blaze. An ideal day for me would be sitting on the top of a mountain with the ones I love. I love exploring and photographing sites unseen by others. It''s a passion I plan on incorporating into my website, "https://www.tradebit.com" with photos of these adventures. Stay tuned...
On a final note, I would like to add that I am an avid seeker of happiness, as I feel it is one of the greatest gifts that one can give to himself and to others. As part of my quest for happiness, I use biking for not only feeling happy, but to fuel my creative energy. Staying fit of mind and body has paid off when it comes to my music.
