Details:
Come along with McCoy Simonson and the Rocky Mountain Outfit on a journey through the history and beauty of Jasper National Park of Canada.

McCoy Simonson''s Jasper is a musical testament to all of the things that make the park special to McCoy - from the struggles of early Metis settlers to the achingly beautiful vistas afforded throughout this mountain paradise to the ubiquitous scent of pine and the cold of the mountain air.

With musical influences ranging from John Denver to Fleet Foxes to Death Cab for Cutie and Arcade Fire, the Outfit crafts music that calls on the past while invoking an urgency and immediacy that is impossible to ignore.

Jasper''s abundant natural beauty seems almost designed for inspiration. McCoy writes from his personal experience encountering this, the reason for the park''s motto " Beautiful by Nature".

Drawing on his personal experiences exploring the wild areas of Jasper, McCoy communicates his impressions of the wilderness through instrumental music and songs alike.

McCoy''s songs about places like the Athabasca River, the Fryatt Valley, Big Bend...trails and passes and summits and valleys. The experiences of these unique pockets of the wilderness are captured in music.

The human history of the area runs as deep as the roots of the mountains themselves. McCoy has mined this inspiration-songs of legends and of the folk who built a life here of their own two hands. Explorers, First Nations, and early Settlers all find a place in the tales that McCoy retells through song. Travel with the Outfit as they re-discover Maligne Lake with Mary Schaffer; take a visit to the always-buzzing Swift''s Place; and be drawn into the dark ghost tale of the Snake Indian slaughter.

On September first 2010, six figures were gathered around a red canoe on the western banks of the Athabasca river in Jasper, Alberta Canada. The backpacks that they had just ferried across the river contained food, clothing, musical instruments, solar power equipment, and a portable recording outfit. As they pulled the canoe into the bushes and strapped their packs on their backs they looked forward to the long hike up to the Alpine Club of Canada''s Sydney Vallance Hut- located 13km up the mountain in the beautiful Upper Fryatt Valley. They had a long walk ahead of them.

The group spent the next five days recording at this remote hut using the sun as their power source and the stunning beauty of their surroundings as inspiration. The result is McCoy Simonson''s Jasper... a collection of songs inspired by the history and beauty of Jasper National Park.
