Like every great rock band, Jersey City/Asbury Park, NJ’s Readymade Breakup is the sonic clash of four distinct personalities butting heads to create a sound that transcends its parts. After forming in 2004 with all members smarting a bit from previously shattered bands, they formed skeptically…hence, the name. But in a twist of irony, the band has stayed together for two full length records, hundreds of shows, one breakup, one reunion and now returns with their third full length studio effort. And this record from these Garden State pop rockers just might be their best yet! Brimming with hooks, harmonies, and lotsa loud guitars, they’ve certainly upped the ante on this one!
"Readymade Breakup", produced by Steve Evetts (The Cure, Saves The Day, Dillinger Escape Plan) is the group''s most ambitious work to date. The melodies recall the stickiest hooks of The Replacements or Sloan with a lyrical earnestness that no doubt owes a great debt to the band''s hometown kin Bruce Springsteen. But when the craftsmanship of the songwriting (Paul Rosevear) is punctuated by hi-watt blasts of powerchords (Jim Fitzgerald), punk-influenced basslines taken straight from the pages of Milo Goes To College (Gay Elvis) and anchored by a stadium-sized rock drummer (Spicy O’Neil… his old band did open for Bon Jovi after all), it is a sound that doesn’t leave you much of a choice in the matter. They clash, you listen.
