Details:
Hawaii is known for its beaches, resorts, golf, sport fishing and the sipping of mai tais while your hammock is being rocked by trade winds. Guess what? All of that is available here, but there is so much more. Hawaii Island has snow covered mountains, huge cattle ranches, tall ocean cliffs, deep valleys with water falling hundreds of feet down the vertical walls. Hawaii has deserts and rain forests, cities and towns, wealth and poverty, prisons, strip malls, cultures from around the world, prejudice and aloha. Hawaii introduced the world to slide guitar and ukulele bands, slack key and falsetto singing. Hula is so much more than just a dance and the Hawaiian culture is making a comeback. Music is everywhere, in the rain forests and beaches, on the streets and in the star-filled skies.

When Grady came for a short visit, he stayed 15 years…so far. The ocean and land seemed to welcome him. He felt the spirit of the place plant melodies and feelings in his heart. He met wonderful people with deep connections to the islands. He meditated with holy men and women and asked permission, and received instruction in historical etiquette. He encountered spirits in gulches and valleys, and high up the slopes of Mauna Kea. He was drawn to sacred places and little known heiau sites. He worked as an adventure guide and he led local teens in an outdoor education program, taking children sailing, snorkeling, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and camping. He experienced love for the island and then started singing of his love.

Here is a song-by-song description of HAWAIIAN MOON.

The title song revives a vintage Hawaiian sound to tell of an anticipated reunion on a secluded beach with the sound of the waves, the song of the whales, the star filled sky and the HAWAIIAN MOON.

SONAR was written for the US Navy, in an attempt to save the Humpback whales from a deadly technology that floods the ocean with earsplitting sound waves.

TRUE PACIFIC is a love song to the largest ocean on earth. Grady fell in love when he was just a child of four, and even through long separations, his love has never faltered.

What is important to some people may not matter at all to others. This song tells of what Grady wanted in his relationship. Whether or not he got what he wanted, the song stands alone, and so did Grady soon after he wrote it. Ironically what he wanted was PROXIMITY.

The BIG ISLAND is divided into districts, for the sake of governing a large county. All of Hawaii’s districts are distinct and beautiful. This is a travel log of beautiful Hawaii Island.

DON’T YOU THINK IT’S TIME? Is about ending procrastination and not letting fear stifle experience.

The effects of the afore mentioned low frequency active sonar are the subject of IT’S NOT OK. Shying away from an emotional reaction may not be the healthiest way to live or to care for a planet and the creatures that want to dwell in peace.

Grady was watching a news report filled with war and unrest and refugees and wondered what kind of attitude adjustment would be needed to stop all the insanity that drives people to hate each other and won’t let them forgive. Could this be what is needed to create peace in the world? Try it. After all, we’re JUST PASSING THROUGH.

The translation of WAIKANI is “water music” and there is a gulch in North Kohala with that name. This is a very rural part of the island, beyond public utilities and modern conveniences.

LIVE DANGEROUSLY was not only written as a seduction, it seemed like a good suggestion.

There is a presence in Hawaii that refreshes and revitalizes the land. We call it the TRADE WINDS.

Hawaii has two mountains over 13,000 feet in elevation and a very beautiful, slightly shorter one. These peaks are magnificent, towering over the Pacific Ocean, often blanketed in snow. Grady wrote this one on horseback, looking southward from the ranch toward the THREE MOUNTAINS.

Island life is different from continental life in many ways. One of the main ones is that you cannot escape the consequences of your behavior. It all comes around when WE LIVE ON AN ISLAND.
