Generation Call’s debut album is a creative Tour de Force. Two years in the making and involving collaborations between some of the state’s most exciting talents, Word of Mouth documents the lives of those unsung heroes who’ve taken on the overwhelming odds and won.
The album’s 11 stunning tracks are widely diverse in nature and bring together a broad range of genres, styles and flavours. The album was entirely recorded on the edge of the beautiful Flinders Ranges in the desert region of South Australia before being mixed and mastered by Adelaide’s finest; Luke Vickery and Neville Clarke.
Generation Call, originally formed in 2008, share a fiery, diverse and deep rooted passion for pedigree song writing. Their influences range widely from The Beatles to Stevie Wonder, Muse to Jamiroqui, The jazz legends to Bacharach and many more besides. The band has 4 principal members – Andy Killcross (Guitar, Vocals), Stuart Bailey (Bass guitar), Ash Parkinson (Keyboards) and Greg ''Robo'' Robertson (Drums). Collaboration is a key part of the band’s philosophy and they’re constantly on the lookout for creative ways to explore innovation with others. As such, the band has already achieved collaborations with some of Australia’s finest and most respected artists. They’ve supported legendary rockers Cold Chisel during their 2009 reunion tour and written for and performed with The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. They''ve shared stages with Shannon Noll and Ross Wilson and also worked with The Victorian College of The Arts to produce ground breaking animation. Their songs have received wide spread airplay on both ABC radio and state TV.
All 4 members of Generation Call have had diverse and unique musical journeys along the way. Andy''s been in bands in Scotland, England and Australia as well as writing and recording a string of EP''s and albums. Stu''s travelled widely, playing everything and anything while scooping a BA in Music to boot. Ash is the original piano man, having toured the state as a solo multi-instrumentalist, at one point ditching the keys for the ever so slightly more portable steel stringed axe. Robo''s played far and wide over many years throughout South Australia, perfecting his craft.
The coming year promises to be a very exciting one for the band. The release of their debut album sees the culmination of many shared hopes and dreams while a busy touring schedule promises to take their exceptional and much lauded live show to far flung and intriguing places.
