Details:
If you ask ANJALI SUNITA when she started yoga, she will tell you that she doesn''t know where exactly the yoga journey began. It could have been at age five when she began enjoying giving massages to her family and feeling a special energy in her hands and running throughout her body. It could have been when she began from yoga books. It could have been through her experience as a dancer or actress. It could have been in an adolescent depression when she began asking the larger human questions like "Who am I?", and studying spiritual traditions in the world and transcendental philosophy, which naturally led her to a practice of meditation. At age 19, she met her devotional singing guru, Hasu Patel, who taught her breathing, singing, and concentration on the chakras. In 2005, she became certified to teach Hatha yoga through the Sivananda Dhanwantari Ashram in Kerela, India and has been instructing classes throughout the world ever since. Founder and Director of Baltimore Yoga Village, Anjali works to support peace in her home city and wherever she is called to teach.

HASU PATEL, a disciple of sitar legend Ustad Vilayat Khan Sahib, is one of the few world-class female artists performing classical music on sitar. She plays in a distinctive style known as Gayaki Ang (Singing Style), where the sitar replicates the fluidity and subtle nuances of the human voice. After performing the world premier of the piece, Mangal Dhwani, with the Doctors Orchestra of Houston in February 2008 in a program entitled ‘East Meets West’ and the world premier of the piece, Swara Mangalam, with the Canton Orchestra of Michigan in March 2008, Hasu became the first female composer and performer of sitar concertos. She has won many awards for her contribution to performing arts and public service including the NRI (Non Resident Indians) Welfare Society of India ‘Hind Rattan Award’, 2009. She has also played and taught, at numerous yoga ashrams and sound healing concerts worldwide, her gentle, meditative music, as heard here on Om Shanti.
