Details:
In 2001, Young Denali and K-Kal were introduced by a mutual friend who thought because of their musical talents, they would mesh quite well together. During this time, Young Denali was working toward a record contract and approached K-Kal to mix and re-record songs for his demo. As the two worked more together, they began to collaborate on new tracks together and experiment with their styles. The talent was evident, and “The 21st Infantry” was born. The two found it was their differences that made their unique musical chemistry.
K-Kal and Young Denali were approached by MTV in 2002 to star in a reality show called "Living the Dream." The network liked the polar opposites of Young Denali from Los Angeles collaborating with recent Seattle transplant, K-Kal. The premise of the show was to illustrate the extent of what new artists would do to get their big break in the entertainment industry. In this case, the duo was documented for a month by a nine person camera crew showing them in the studio, performing at showcases, and hitting up the LA party scene. "Living the Dream" never got picked up, but MTV still realized what a great idea they had on their hands and spawned many new commercial entertainment reality shows.
Over the next several years, K-Kal and Young Denali worked on new songs together as well as exploring their solo careers. They both gained experience with shows in some of Southern California’s most well known clubs. Always keeping their debut album in mind, The 21st infantry got back in the studio in 2009 to finish their “The Jet Set” album. Released in 2011, The 21st Infantry''s new CD really pushes their sound to a whole new level. With club ready tracks like "RockStar RapStar,” “This My Play,” “This is How We Be,” and the smooth two-step jazzy sounds of “Gangster Groove,” “Overkill,” and many others, their latest collaboration has proven their music timeless and adds new sound to hip hop for the 21st Century.
