About young no money:
"This album comes from a place of honesty. It came from my desire to produce something that would help me to connect with people. The title track makes reference to a famous and currently very popular group. That group has put this concept out there that my generation is idolizing of being young and having lots of money. I find the widespread acceptance of this concepts idolization disconcerting. I wanted to make music that a lot of people could listen to and enjoy so that i could maybe put this counter message out of its ok to be young and not have any money. There''s just this convoluted idea about the value of money and youth that people need to figure out for themselves. I wanted to make music that every day people could listen to and enjoy, while still putting in my heart and soul and connecting with people. This album is the result of that. I listened to a lot of dubstep while making it actually, and also most of the songs were written for a loopstation performance, where there is a beatbox going in the background so the rhythm in each song is very important. I listened to all of my other primary influences too, but some new artists that probably impacted the way this all went down are Miike Snow, reggie watts, ben kweller, say hi to your mom, and the Cribs. I hope you like it."

About David James McKinney:
David James McKinney is an Oklahoma City singer songwriter, actively pursuing a career as a live performer and recording artist. When playing live he uses a live looping station and an effects pedal to build a set of dynamic backing tracks to create a full, rhythmic sound that most artists need a full band to produce. An example of this can be found on David’s youtube page at https://www.tradebit.com He has been known to play as a duo with Matt Bowlin, and when the opportunity arises, play with a full band of experienced OKC session players.

David has been writing songs since he was thirteen. He has completed five self released albums of material, which were recorded in various home studios. He has received positive reviews from the Oklahoma Gazette and had a string of successful performances in the Oklahoma City metro area including regular performances at the Lobby Bar, Galileo''s, the Blue Note, the Bricktown Ballroom, Full Circle Bookstore, Michalangelo’s, Bin 73, Jazmoz Bourbon Street Café, Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse, JJ’s Alley, Bricktown Brewery, the Prohibition Room, Tapwerks, Kang''s Asian Bistro, the Edmond Jazz Festival, Toby Keith’s bar and Grill, the Edmond Arts Festival, and even a bit of street performance in Bricktown.

In high school he was a member of the band ‘Life of Riley’ which played venues around Oklahoma City, including the Blue Note where they were an Oklahoma Gazette pick of the week. Also with Life of Riley David’s song ‘Shotgun Girl’ was accepted out of hundreds of entries into the top 32 for 94.7 the Buzz’ March Bandness contest. In 2006 David spent a few months playing coffee houses in Nashville, Tennessee. In December 2006 he returned home to Oklahoma City where a new band, The Memories Fire, formed and recorded a four track EP while playing around Oklahoma City in Bricktown and in Texas for a few shows. In the fall of 2008 the Memories Fire disbanded, and so David returned to his solo project, East of Western. As East of Western, David released a 12 song album “Trappings” and sold it at live solo shows until the end of summer 2009. At that point, he changed the name of the solo act to “David James McKinney” and released a 6 track album entitled “a boat on the ocean”. Following a year of promoting a boat on the ocean, David began working on his sixth solo album. In the summer of 2010 David was an Oklahoma Gazette pick of the week for a performance at the Prohibition Room. He was also featured on Quickstar Productions acoustic compilation CD.

On January 11th, 2011 David released his sixth solo album on East of Western records. The release of his sixth album "Young, no money" coincides with the creation of a website and the beginning of efforts to market David''s music digitally. At the same time, local shows of all shapes and sizes are still on the agenda, David plays a great catalogue of acoustic material ranging from hundreds of originals to Treysongz covers to Johnny Cash to Kings of Leon and James Taylor.
